What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, often referred to as a nose job, is a surgical procedure aimed at enhancing the shape, size, and overall aesthetics of the nose. This surgery can be performed for cosmetic reasons or to correct functional issues such as nasal asymmetry, dorsal hump reduction, tip refinement, and nasal breathing obstructions.

Procedure of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is usually conducted under local or general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the surgery and the surgeon’s advice. The surgeon makes precise incisions either inside or outside the nose to access the underlying bone and cartilage. Based on individual needs, they may reshape the nasal bone, cartilage, or tissue to achieve the desired look. In some cases, additional cartilage grafts from the septum or ear may be used to support the nasal structure. The surgery typically lasts between one to two hours, and afterward, your nose may be splinted and packed to help maintain its new shape during the healing process.

Recovery from Rhinoplasty

Post-surgery, it’s common to experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the nose and eyes, which usually subsides within a few weeks. Your surgeon will provide specific postoperative instructions to alleviate discomfort and encourage healing. During recovery, it’s essential to avoid strenuous activities, keep your head elevated, and follow the care guidelines provided. Most patients can return to normal activities within a week, although complete recovery may take several weeks to months.
